More than 115 million children are not in school, many of them roam the streets without hope of a brighter future. According to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child has the right to education .

I am starting a 24-day count down to Nigeria’s Children’s Day on May 27th 2012 to focus the attention of the world on the plight of the indigent child and the work the InnerCity Mission of Christ Embassy does to make the difference. THE WILL TO SURVIVE!!
Emotional! Truly emotional! A shot of a street family, as they headed for their home under the bridge; a refuse dump. I couldn’t miss this look of depression, expressed by the trio, all at the same time. I run this Photo Blog to show you the realities of life on “the other side of the divide”. The only difference between a poor and a rich child is the side where they were born. This picture depicts a determined mother, who has not given up on hope, even though she has nothing to cater for her sons. Thanks to the InnerCity Mission of Christ Embassy, Efe and Michael, the boys in this picture now live in the InnerCity Mission Home and have since started school.

I photographed this ‘cutie’ as we rounded up Day 2 of Send Portions 2011. We just had an awesome time with the children in Abete with over 1500 children in attendance. (follow the story and photo report on Memoirs) This little girl kept looking at us as we collapsed the canopies, moved our speakers and gear back into the truck.

I knew she had been at the party because of the tell-tale marks of face paint. Her expression seemed to say : “please don’t leave, I want more cakes, ice cream and some extra fun…” This was one shot I didn’t want to miss… a classic , coming from my Canon Rebel T3i. I shot at an easy ISO 100, f/6.3.

We will surely come back honey… with nice gifts for the next Send Portions in 2012.
